60 seconds with…Matt de Frece, Commercial Manager, Power Control Ltd

Tell us about your business, when was it formed and what do you do?
Power Control has been a trusted provider of uninterruptible power supply (UPS) solutions for over 30 years. Founded in 1994, we specialise in delivering reliable power protection across various industries, ensuring business continuity and compliance with evolving regulations. Now part of Legrand, we combine our expertise with global innovation to support critical infrastructure, offering tailored UPS solutions, expert guidance, and ongoing support to meet our customers’ power resilience needs.
Who are your customers? Which markets do you serve?
Power Control works with lift manufacturers, specifiers, contractors, and building owners to provide reliable UPS solutions for the lift sector. As regulations evolve and space constraints increase, we help ensure lifts remain operational during power failures. Our expertise supports a range of environments, from commercial buildings and residential developments to healthcare and transport hubs, delivering tailored UPS solutions that meet compliance, safety, and performance requirements.
How many times have you been to LIFTEX?
This will be our second time exhibiting at LIFTEX.
What are the main issues that your customers deal with and how do you help them?
The Building Safety Act has made supplying specialist products more complex, and with UPS now required in more buildings, customers must ensure compliance. However, as UPS is a niche product, many lack the necessary knowledge. Power Control simplifies this by educating customers, providing expert guidance, and ensuring they have the right UPS solutions to meet regulations and protect critical infrastructure with confidence.
Are there any issues that specifiers, contractors / owners should be aware of in the next 12 months?
Space constraints are a growing challenge, especially when retrofitting UPS to support lifts. Specifiers and contractors must consider compact, efficient solutions that meet regulatory requirements without compromising performance. Having an expert who can assess the site and recommend the right equipment is essential to ensure compliance, reliability, and seamless integration.
How can we, as an industry, help designers and building owners to become more energy efficient and meet Net Zero targets?
While UPS solutions don’t directly offer energy savings, many modern lifts now feature regenerative functions to reduce energy costs. However, these regenerative loads can create challenges when paired with a UPS. To support energy efficiency and Net Zero targets, it’s crucial to have a supplier who understands these complexities and can specify UPS systems suitable for modern day lifts
